Abtract:
This Engineering Guideline gives an introduction to the Media Dispatch Protocol (MDP) for the orchestration of the delivery of media files over IP networks. It describes the purpose of the protocol, and presents an outline of the technology involved, including an overview of the messages and data structures of the protocol, and how the protocol can be extended to meet future scenarios. — The Guideline provides advice on how the protocol can be used in practice, and what should be implemented. It also outlines how common transfer protocols and security mechanisms might be used in conjunction with MDP.
