Clearance between concentric springs is obtained by<br \/>\nusing a clearance factor incorporated into the design equations &#8211;<br \/>\nminor discrepancies produced between calculated and recommended<br \/>\nclearances are discussed. Design notes on nested springs are<br \/>\nprovided and a shortened process explained in which an existing<br \/>\nsingle spring design may be directly replaced with a nest in order<br \/>\nto reduce either stress, length or outside diameter.
