This Standard specifies the shape, dimensions, their tolerances, as well as appearance and mass of flat steels produced by hot rolling.

The application of this Standard shall be as specified in each product standard.

NOTE The International Standards corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows.

ISO 1035-3:1980 Hot-rolled steel bars—Part 3: Dimensions of flat bars

ISO 1035-4:1982 Hot-rolled steel bars—Part 4: Tolerances

ISO 9034:1987 Hot-rolled structural steel wide flats—Tolerances on dimensions and shape (Overall evaluation: MOD)

In addition, symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/ IEC Guide 21-1.
