ASTM C1514<\/h4>\n

Scope<\/strong><\/p>\n

1.1 This test method covers the quantitative determination of the fraction of 235<\/sup>U in uranium using measurement of the 185.7 keV gamma ray produced during the decay of 235<\/sup>U.<\/p>\n

1.2 This test method is applicable to items containing homogeneous uranium-bearing materials of known chemical composition in which the compound is considered infinitely thick with respect to 185.7 keV gamma rays.<\/p>\n

1.3 This test method can be used for the entire range of 235<\/sup>U fraction, from depleted (0.2 % 235<\/sup>U) to very highly enriched (97.5 % 235<\/sup>U).<\/p>\n

1.4 Measurement of items that have not reached secular equilibrium between 238<\/sup>U and 234<\/sup>Th, may not produce the stated bias when low-resolution detectors are used with the computational method listed in Appendix B.<\/p>\n
