The corrections arise because there is a lag in the<br \/>\ntransmission of a pressure change at the sensor ports to the<br \/>\ninstrumentation. That lag is caused by acoustic and friction<br \/>\neffects in the airflow in the system when the pressures are<br \/>\nchanging but, for high- performance aircraft, includes<br \/>\ncontributions from the inertia of the air mass in the pressure<br \/>\nsystem in accelerated flight and, when the static ports are<br \/>\nrelatively small, a lag additional to that found in ground<br \/>\ncalibrations that is thought to be due to the flow through the<br \/>\nports themselves. ESDU 85011 provides estimation methods for each<br \/>\ncontribution to lag for use when measured values are not available,<br \/>\nand allows corrections derived from ground (or flight) calibrations<br \/>\nto be adjusted to apply to different conditions from those under<br \/>\nwhich they were obtained.
