{"id":692520,"date":"2024-11-06T05:29:48","date_gmt":"2024-11-06T05:29:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pdfstandards.shop\/product\/uncategorized\/tia-eia-is-6371995\/"},"modified":"2024-11-06T05:29:48","modified_gmt":"2024-11-06T05:29:48","slug":"tia-eia-is-6371995","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/pdfstandards.shop\/product\/publishers\/tia\/tia-eia-is-6371995\/","title":{"rendered":"TIA\/EIA\/IS-637:1995"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>INTRODUCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>General Description<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Short Message Service (SMS) allows the exchange of short<br \/>\nalphanumeric messages between a mobile station and the cellular<br \/>\nsystem and between the cellular system and an external device<br \/>\ncapable of transmitting and optionally receiving short messages.<br \/>\nThe external device may be a voice telephone, a data terminal or a<br \/>\nshort message entry system.<\/p>\n<p>The Short Message Service consists of message entry features,<br \/>\nadministration features, and message transmission capabilities.<br \/>\nThese features are distributed between a cellular system and the<br \/>\nSMS message center (MC) which together make up the SMS system. The<br \/>\nMC may be either separate from or physically integrated into the<br \/>\ncellular system.<\/p>\n<p>Short message entry features are provided through interfaces to<br \/>\nthe MC and the mobile station. Senders use these interfaces to<br \/>\nenter short messages, intended destination addresses, and various<br \/>\ndelivery options.<\/p>\n<p>MC interfaces may include features such as audio response<br \/>\nprompts and DTMF reception for dial-in access from voice<br \/>\ntelephones, as well as appropriate menus and message entry<br \/>\nprotocols for dial in or dedicated data terminal access. Mobile<br \/>\nstation interfaces may include keyboard and display features to<br \/>\nsupport message entry. Additionally, a cellular voice service<br \/>\nsubscriber can use normal voice or data features of the mobile<br \/>\nstation to call an SMS system to enter a message.<\/p>\n<p>An SMS Teleservice can provide the option of specifying priority<br \/>\nlevel, future delivery time, message expiration interval, or one or<br \/>\nmore of series of short, pre-defined messages.<\/p>\n<p>If supported by the Teleservice, the sender can request<br \/>\nacknowledgments that the message was received by the mobile<br \/>\nstation. An SMS recipient, after receiving a short message, can<br \/>\nspecify one of a number of pre-defined messages to be returned with<br \/>\nthe acknowledgment to the sender.<\/p>\n<p>SMS administration features include message storage, profile<br \/>\nediting, verification of receipt, and status inquiry capabilities.<br \/>\nSMS administration is not within the scope of this standard.<\/p>\n<p>The SMS transmission capabilities provide for the transmission<br \/>\nof short messages to or from an intended mobile station, and the<br \/>\nreturn of acknowledgments and error messages. These messages and<br \/>\nacknowledgments are transmitted to or from the mobile station<br \/>\nwhether it is idle or engaged in a voice or data call.<\/p>\n<p>The cellular service provider may offer SMS transmission to its<br \/>\ncellular voice and data customers only, or may provide an SMS only<br \/>\nservice without additional voice or data transmission<br \/>\ncapabilities.<\/p>\n<p>The standard also provides for the broadcast of messages. All<br \/>\navailable mobile stations on a CDMA Paging Channel can receive a<br \/>\nbroadcast message. A broadcast message is not acknowledged by the<br \/>\nmobile station.
